Day 8: Tue 14 Feb - Nha Trang to Phu Yen, 81km

Temp: 26 feels like 39c
Rode 81km

8am seems to be the default starting time for our day.  First up we drove to the local Cham Temple built sometime BC. Very similar to the Khmer temples of Cambodia.  The Cham people were hounded and killed by the Vietnamese for ages but now they’re well integrated into the country, albeit in smaller numbers.
Back on the bus for the transfer to our ride start point. Today was supposed to be relatively flat, along the coast, a complete contrast to yesterday.  However as it turned out some found it tougher than yesterday.  Hence we didn’t ride into destination Phu Yen, anno beach front motel, until 5:30pm.
On the way we passed through Cang Vung Ro, a port city with a huge farmed lobster industry. It certainly had the strong smell of fish/crustaceans hanging in the air.  Stopped for lunch at a restaurant in the middle of nowhere and had a delicious seafood hotpot and a meat/noodle/veg dish. I’m definitely going to put weight on this trip, maybe.
At my room after a shower and clothes washing we all met up for dinner. As it’s a rest day tomorrow we had to find our own tonight. First we wandered to a “pub” which supposedly served pizza. Alas, a very timid barman told us that they didn’t have any food.  So we walked some more, but the further we went away from the beach the less we saw of potential eating places.  We were trying to get something that didn’t involve rice.  We then realised the beach club of our motel held the best chance.  Back we went only to be told that it would be at least an hour for food as they were very busy.  So we had a drink and waited. Everything turned up on time and the meals were pretty good. I had a lovely seafood bolognaise which cost a very reasonable $9.
I was glad to be back in my cool room and it didn’t take me long to fall asleep.
