The new Hamilton.
I’m pleased they included cycling lanes
Due to COVID it’s been 2019 since the”team” has done an Asian cycle tour. We were extremely lucky on the Malaysian tour, just getting home as COVID hit and the borders started slamming shut.
The first I knew of the current tour was in November last year when Baz put out an email asking for expressions of interest about a ride from Saigon to Hanoi. Despite a few uncertainties for me, pending eye surgery, concerns over yet another COVID variant outbreak, etc I immediately put my hand up. I wasn’t totally confident that my situation could be resolved in time to get away, but what the heck it was well worth the risk.
As it turned out my eye op (cataract) went perfectly and COVID sort of faded into the background, although still there and still deadly for some poor souls.
Monday 6 Feb 23 - Before I could say Jack Robertson it was time to leave. The easiest way to fly to Saigon was for Wendy to drive me to Brisbane, stay overnight, then get the first flight to Sydney in the morning. Would have been better to get a direct flight from Brisbane but alas, not possible. Wendy organised a booking at the Airport Motel, Hamilton so nice and handy for an early start tomorrow. After an uneventful drive (by Wendy) we were settled in with a cuppa about 2:30pm. Had a lovely stroll around the very flash Brett Wharf precinct which used to be a grubby waterfront when I was based in Brisbane in the 70s. The cool breeze off the river was most welcome. It’s been really hot and humid at home so there won’t be any problem for me getting acclimatised.
We wandered over to the wharf for dinner and had a very nice Indian meal.
